Planning permission for new Manchester hotel

28 May 2009  -  Muse Developments has secured planning permission for a new Express by Holiday Inn hotel in Manchester, the fifth phase of development at its Smithfield scheme in the city's Northern Quarter.

The site for the £15 million hotel, which will comprise 192 bedrooms over eight floors, will also include a new 1,330 sqm public square.

"Smithfield was largely impenetrable some years ago," said Muse project director, Mike Payton,  “and the new Smithfield Square will improve access from the north and south, enlivening and enhancing the area.”

Work is expected to start on site in October of this year, and to be completed by early 2011.

Smithfield is a substantial mixed-use development in Manchester's city centre.  Muse (working in joint venture with Crosby Homes) has now developed over 300 apartments there, with a highly successful mix of ground floor uses including offices, art galleries, café/bars and retailers.   A Crowne Plaza hotel, completed last year, was also part of the project.

Muse Developments is part of UK construction and regeneration group Morgan Sindall plc which operates through five specialist divisions of fit out, construction, infrastructure services, affordable housing and urban regeneration.
